Butler, Tennessee
Inundated by Watauga Dam
By the time that the floodgates of the Watauga Dam had opened in 1948, 761 families moved from the town known as Butler, Tennessee- the only incorporated town ever bought and flooded by the TVA. Ultimately, the TVA acquired 12,000 acres of land in order to build Watauga Dam.
The town of Butler still exists today, in its second iteration, or "New Butler."
